Restaurant Chefs and Food Safety

Restaurant Chefs and Food Safety - No A? Walk Away!Guiding Question:
How is cooking in a restaurant kitchen different from cooking at home?

hair bands; hair nets; disposable gloves; graham crackers; marshmallow creme; chocolate bar; butter knives

Research and/or discuss the special ways restaurants make sure the food they serve is safe. Students should remove jewelry, tie back hair, use hair nets, wash hands, wear disposable gloves, etc. The new “restaurant workers” should then make “raw” s’mores.

Additional Questions:
Why does someone cooking at home often only take some of the food safety precautions a restaurant chef would?

Would food prepared at home be safer if the cook wore gloves?

How much safer are restaurants where the workers wear gloves versus restaurants where the workers only wash their hands?
