What happens to refrigerated foods when they sit out too long?
whole milk; glasses; berries; raw meat; bowls; latex gloves
- Place latex gloves on your hands.
- Remove milk from refrigerator and pour two glasses of milk. Place one glass on the counter and one back in the refrigerator.
- Put one half of the berries in a bowl on the counter and half in a bowl in the refrigerator.
- Take two tablespoons of raw hamburger meat. Place one tablespoon of meat in a bowl on the counter. Place the other tablespoon of meat in a bowl in the refrigerator.
Check all of your items in three two-hour increments the first day. The following day check your items once. Record your observations of sight and smell. Touch only with gloved hands and do not taste or you could become ill!
What conclusions can you make from your observations?
If you repeated the experiment with raw milk and cooked berries and meat, how would your results change?
